Elevating CSR Practices and Partnerships for Canadian Industry Abroad
This is a practical, interactive forum on the future direction of Corporate Social Responsibility for the extractive sector, as well as other Canadian industries active internationally. The forum brings together corporate and public sector leaders to highlight and advance the CSR-related concepts, tools and partnerships that will set the foundation for companies to earn and maintain a social license to operate. All forum panels and case studies will devote the majority of time to Q&A.

Moderator: Paul Drager, Q.C., Partner, Norton Rose Canada LLP Keynote: Kyle Peterson, Managing Director, Foundation Strategy Group (FSG), Boston Kyle Peterson, along with fellow FSG Directors Professor Michael Porter (Harvard Business School) and Mark Kramer, is one of the promulgators of the much lauded Creating Shared Value (CSV) model – a departure from traditional CSR - which embraces the idea that generating a profit and achieving social gains are not mutually exclusive. Mr. Peterson will focus on taking CSV from concept to practice with examples from the extractive sector, identifying how redefining value chains, strengthening local clusters, and reconceiving products and services to enhance competitiveness can lead to both profit maximization and societal progress. Included in Mr. Peterson’s extensive portfolio of global corporate clients are Shell, Pfizer, Merck and (previously) Petro-Canada. He was also the economic strategy advisor to President Paul Kagame of Rwanda. Notably, The Economist named Shared Value a Top Trend for 2012. |
